Tea Spotlight: Matcha

As you may have already noticed, we love tea. This week we will be talking about our new fave: Matcha Green Tea.


Matcha green tea originated in Japan, and because the entire leaf is ingested in powder form, it is the most potent green tea in the world. Matcha was favoured by Zen Buddhists. They found that in drinking it before their afternoon meditations made them feel much more “centered”, “focused”, and maintain a level of sustained energy throughout the afternoon.

One cup of matcha is the equivalent to 10 cups of brewed green tea. It is grown out of direct sunlight to increase production of caffeine and theanine. This combination of chemicals is considered to account for the calm energy people might feel from drinking matcha.

What makes it so great?

This combintation is quite magical as it leads to the following benefits:

  • Increases energy level
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Enhances calm
  • Boosts memory and concentration 

Also, the antioxidant levels are off the charts – more than any other superfood.
